Potere al Popolo esprime il proprio sdegno contro l’inaccettabile accanimento repressivo nei confronti dell’HDP.
Siamo solidali con le compagne ed i compagni che lottano in Turchia e facciamo nostro l’appello alla solidarietà internazionale lanciato dal partito per porre fine alle pratiche antidemocratiche e persecutorie del regime di Erdoğan!
Assistiamo con forte indignazione all’aumento incessante della repressione politica in Turchia nei confronti dell’HDP.
Solo la scorsa settimana sono stati fermati circa 700 attivisti e militanti politici, mentre non cessano le pratiche antidemocratiche e vessatorie messe in atto contro deputati e co-sindaci.
Basta passare in rassegna unicamente gli avvenimenti susseguitesi nell’ultimo mese per renderci conto dello stato di oppressione che regna oggi in Turchia.
- La Corte Suprema turca ha confermato la condanna a 16 anni e 3 mesi di prigione all’ex co-sindaca di Hakkari dell’HDP, Dilek Hatipoğlu. Il 12 febbraio è stata trasferita dalla prigione di Sincan alla prigione di tipo T di Van, dove ha subito abusi e violenze. In seguito al suo rifiuto di spogliarsi completamente per la perquisizione, è stata picchiata da tre guardie carcerarie in un punto nascosto dalle telecamere, e con la forza le hanno tolto i vestiti e l’hanno perquisita.
- I pubblici ministeri turchi hanno annunciato di aver predisposto l’iter procedurale contro nove deputati dell’HDP, tra cui la co-presidente, Pervin Buldan, riguardo l’indagine sulle manifestazioni a difesa di Kobane, e di averlo sottoposte al ministero della Giustizia.
Come si ricorderà nel 2014 l’HDP aveva invitato le persone a mobilitarsi a sostegno di Kobane, che era sotto attacco da parte dell’ISIS. Le manifestazioni erano state duramente represse dalle forze dell’ordine turche ed hanno subito attacchi anche da gruppi simpatizzanti dell’Isis. Circostanza che ha causato un bilancio drammatico, con la morte 43 persone, quasi tutte sostenitrici dell’HDP. Per aver fatto appello alla mobilitazione i membri dell’HDP sono stati accusati di terrorismo e anche di omicidio di coloro che sono morti. Queste erano le accuse mosse contro Selahattin Demirtaș che la CEDU ha ritenuto non convincente. Attualmente sono sotto accusa i parlamentari Garo Paylan, Huda Kaya, Sezai Temelli, Pero Dundar, Fatma Kurtulan, Serpil Kemalbay, i vicepresidenti del gruppo parlamentare dell’HDP Meral Danis Bestas e Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, e la co-presidente Pervin Buldan. Dalle elezioni generali del 2018, più di 800 procedimenti sono stati presentati al parlamento turco per i deputati HDP. - Il 19 Febbraio la Corte di Cassazione ha approvato la condanna in carcere del deputato HDP per Kocaeli, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, aprendo la strada per la sua esclusione dall’appartenenza al parlamento.
Gergerlioğlu è stato ritenuto colpevole di “propaganda terroristica” sulla base di un post pubblicato sui social media. È stato condannato a 2 anni e 6 mesi di prigione dal 2° tribunale penale di Kocaeli nel febbraio 2018, ed è stato successivamente eletto deputato nel giugno dello stesso anno. Il caso è stato portato alla 16a Camera Penale della Corte di Cassazione dopo che la Corte di giustizia regionale di Istanbul aveva respinto un ricorso.
Nell’esprimere la nostra piena solidarietà all’HDP, chiediamo all’Italia di smetterla di essere complice di un regime repressivo come quello di Erdoğan!

Potere al Popolo stands with the HDP as it faces a wave of new arrests. These attacks are only the latest escalation in an unceasing campaign of repression waged by the Erdoğan regime since the party’s inception.
Just last week over 700 HDP activists were arrested. At the same time, the Turkish Supreme Court confirmed a sentence of 16 years and 3 months for the ex co-mayor of Hakkari, Dilek Hatipoğlu, a representative of the HDP. On the 12th February she was transferred from Sincan prison to a high-security unit in Van where she was assaulted. After refusing to strip for a body search, she was beaten by three officers off-camera and her clothes were forcibly removed.
On the very same day, Turkish prosecutors filed charges relating to demonstrations that took place during the Battle of Kobane against nine HDP members of parliament, among them the party’s co-president Pervin Buldan.
On the 2nd October 2020, 17 other HDP politicians had been arrested for their involvement in Kobane protests. The party’s two former co-presidents Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, who have been detained since 2016, have also been tried for participation in the protests.
The demonstrations in support of Kobane were called by the HDP in support of the city’s resistance against ISIS. The protests were met with force by the Turkish army, resulting in the deaths of 43 people. For calling these protests, HDP leading figures are being accused of terrorism and of bringing about the deaths of those killed by the Turkish army. In the case of Selahattin Demirtaș, these charges were deemed by the European Court of Human Rights to be unfounded. Currently, the HDP MPs Garo Paylan, Huda Kaya, Sezai Temelli, Pero Dundar, Fatma Kurtulan and Serpil Kemalbay are facing the same charges, along with the two vicepresidente of the HDP’s parliamentary group Meral Danis Bestas and Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, and the party co-president Pervin Buldan. Since the 2018 general election, over 800 cases have been brought against HDP members of parliament.
Finally, on the 19th February the Turkish Supreme Court confirmed the 2-and-a-half-year prison sentence of the HDP MP for Kocaeli, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, paving the way for his removal from parliament. Gergerlioğlu was found guilty of “spreading terrorist propaganda” on the basis of a social media post but was elected to parliament later in the same year. Gergerlioğlu is likely to meet the same fate as fellow party members Leyla Güven and Musa Farisoğlu, who were stripped last year of their seats in parliament following confirmation of sentences.
We are outraged at this campaign of persecution being waged on a peaceful, democratic organisation and ask that all who share our values stand with us in answering stand with us in answering the HDP’s call for international solidarity. Erdoğan’s reign of terror must be stopped!
