Il 9 giugno i nostri compagni del Frontline Socialist Party hanno manifestato pacificamente e in solidarietà al movimento statunitense Black Lives Matter fuori dall’ambasciata americana a Colombo, seguendo le indicazioni del governo sul distanziamento sociale. Le autorità hanno deciso di non autorizzare la protesta, che è stata poi repressa fortemente da parte delle forze dell’ordine. In totale sono stati arrestati 42 attivisti del Frontline Socialist Party e diversi avvocati che stavano cercando di assistere gli arrestati. Tutti gli arrestati sono stati rilasciati, ma solo dopo essere stati picchiati dalla polizia durante lo stato di fermo e dopo essere stati accusati ufficialmente.
Potere al Popolo esprime la sua piena solidarietà ai compagni che hanno esercitato e continuano ad esercitare il diritto di protestare in sicurezza in uno Stato, come lo Sri Lanka, che conosce una storia di brutale violenza di Stato. Il movimento statunitense Black Lives Matter ha ispirato le persone in tutto il mondo a mobilitarsi contro il razzismo e l’oppressione che subiscono per mano dei loro stessi governi e come risultato dell’ordine globale oppressivo costruito attraverso l’egemonia degli Stati Uniti. È fondamentale continuare a sostenerci reciprocamente a livello internazionale per difendere il valori di Black Lives Matter.

Solidarity with Sri Lankan Black Lives Matter and Frontline Socialist Party protestors
On the 9th June our comrades in the Frontline Socialist Party held a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement outside the US Embassy in Colombo, following government guidelines on social distancing. Security forces decided not to authorise the protest, and it was met with severe repression. 42 members of the Frontline Socialist Party were arrested in total, as well as lawyers attempting to provide them with assistance. All arrestees have now been released but were beaten in police custody and are facing charges.
Potere al Popolo extends its full solidarity to our comrades exercising the right to protest safely in a state with a history of brutal state violence. The Black Lives Matter movement has inspired people across the world to mobilise against the racism and oppression they suffer at the hands of their own governments and as a result of the oppressive global order constructed through US hegemony. It is vital that we continue to support each other internationally to uphold the values of Black Lives Matter.
